Under certain circumstances when your device is off your arm the LED lights may continue flashing and the sensors continue sampling. It is possible that this data could be misconstrued as a fitness event.
Examples include the device lying in a dark, confined space such as a backpack or purse, or when it's placed near or on a reflective surface.
To prevent this from happening, you can place your device on a surface with sensors facing up (this should switch them off) or turn the device off when it's being transported.
